What's The Difference Between Medium And Dish
Apr 25, 2022
Petri dish is a commonly used laboratory utensil, which is mainly used for microbial or cell culture. It is composed of a flat disc-shaped bottom and a cover. It is generally made of plastic or glass. The materials of Petri dishes are basically divided into plastic and glass. Glass Petri dishes can be used for plant materials, microbial culture, and adherent culture of animal cells. Plastic petri dishes may be made of polyethylene material, which can be divided into disposable and multi-use. They are suitable for laboratory marking, inoculation and bacteria isolation, and suitable for the cultivation of plant materials.
Culture medium refers to the nutrient matrix prepared by the combination of different nutrients for the growth and reproduction of microorganisms, plants or animals (or tissues). It generally contains carbohydrates, nitrogen-containing substances, inorganic salts (including trace elements), vitamins and water. Culture medium is not only the basic material to provide cell nutrition and promote cell proliferation, but also the living environment for cell growth and reproduction.
